The American Farm Bureau Federation’s Market basket Survey shows retail egg prices at historically high levels, at one dollar and 98 cents per dozen. Farm Bureau’s Deputy Chief Economist John Anderson says eggs, dairy, poultry and meat all showed increases in their survey.
Last year U.S. egg exports were up by 39 percent compared to 2012. Anderson says much of the increase resulted from increased exports to Mexico.
Anderson says those exports to Mexico will slow down as their producers are though their avian influenza problems and have been rebuilding their flocks. He says even though eggs are at high price levels there will be enough for Easter and Passover.
