Nearly 70-percent of Nebraska counties do not have an addiction counselor, according to the Behavioral Health Education Center of Nebraska.

Director Howard Liu says they are trying to encourage more professionals to work in rural counties.

Liu says they are working to get more resources to health care providers in rural areas. One example is a regular conference call.

Liu says they also want to provide training so more providers can prescribe the drug that counteracts opioid addiction.
