The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating a manure spill from a manure basin east of Hartley, Iowa in O’Brien County.  Ken Hessenius, with the DNR, says the landowner informed his office of the leak which led to the investigation.

Hessenius says the spill did lead to some fish kill, and the leak reached the Ocheyedan River.

Hessenius says the producer acted responsibly by reporting the spill to his office.

Hessenius says most of the producers his office works with have done a good job of reporting these types of incidents and have taken the appropriate steps to fix the problem.
