Attorney General Marty Jackley, McCook County Sheriff Mark Norris and Lake County Sheriff Tim Walburg confirm that the investigation into the Lake County law enforcement standoff is continuing, and potential criminal charges are under review. The subject, who was identified as 37 year old Matthew James Rumbolz of Montrose, did not sustain any injuries. He was arrested late Wednesday afternoon.
The standoff was a result of a series of events that began with a traffic stop by a McCook County Deputy in rural McCook County. A pursuit ensued and ended with a vehicle crash near 453rd Avenue and 243rd Street in Lake County. A McCook County Deputy was shot while trying to engage with Rumbolz, who was in the car. A Lake County Deputy, who was called for backup was not injured. Rumbolz fled on foot and was located in an adjacent field around 8 a.m. Negotiations continued throughout the day until Rumbolz surrendered himself at approximately 3:30 p.m.
