A drastic increase in internet speed for your smart phone is on the horizon.
5G wireless is predicted to make mobile internet speeds nearly one hundred times faster than the current standard 4G.
The technology is still in development, but South Dakota Senator John Thune says the US should help 5G development by opening up more broadcast spectrum…..
Thune chairs the Senate Commerce Committee, which has oversight over that technology.
South Dakota Public Utilities Commission Chairman Chris Nelson says 5G will face challenges….
With more towers needed, telecom companies will have to work with local governments. Nelson says the PUC will work to speed up the process.
5G service is expected to be widely available in the US by 2020.
