Make or Break Week for Property Tax Cuts

This could be the week of “pass or not” for any property tax reduction bill in the Nebraska legislature.

Senator Tom Briese of Albion has been one of the leading supporters of shifting taxes to pay for a property tax cut.

He says any bill should be tied to a business incentive plan….

The big hang up has been changes to state aid to education. Briese says there is no real answer to that right now…

Governor Pete Ricketts has opposed the bills that are currently up for debate, calling them tax increases. Briese says the Governor is wrong….

The main tax cut bill, LB289, is scheduled for debate again on Wednesday.
The session is set to end on May 31st.
