South Dakota State University quarterback Zach Lujan has been named Missouri Valley Football Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
He helped lead the Jackrabbits to a 34-10 victory over Robert Morris (Pa.) on Sept. 26.
A junior from Anchorage, Alaska, Lujan threw for a career-high 395 yards on 25-of-43 passing, and tied a career best with three touchdown passes. His 395 passing yards tied former teammate Austin Sumner for second most in a single game by a Jackrabbit quarterback and his 404 yards of total offense — which included nine rushing yards — ranked sixth.
Lujan surpassed the 1,000-yard mark for the season in the Sept. 26 Beef Bowl game and improved to 8-2 as the Jackrabbits’ starting quarterback over the past two seasons.
South Dakota State, 3-0 overall, opens MVFC play this Saturday (Oct. 3) by hosting North Dakota State in the annual Dakota Marker game. Kickoff between the two highly ranked squads is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Coughlin-Alumni Stadium.
