LSP Policy Organizer Says Next COVID 19 Relief Aid Critical For Agriculture

LSP Policy Organizer Says Next COVID 19 Relief Aid Critical For Agriculture

Congress won’t consider any coronavirus relief until September, and the streamlined package won’t likely include agriculture. That’s very concerning to Tom Nuessmeier, Policy Program Organizer for the Minnesota Land Steward Ship project.

He says his group’s members are not only concerned with the negative impacts on crop farmers but also with how the COVID 19 has impacted livestock producers, processors and their workers.

Nuessmeier says another major worry is that when Congress returns in September, their fiscal year ends at the end of the month, so getting any spending relief approved may be difficult to get done.

The Senate returns to session on September 8 and the House has scheduled to return for committee meetings on that same date with their full body returning to session September 14.
