Farm Bill conference committee leaders are at odds over the commodity title. The four have been trying to find compromises to advance farm legislation that expired the end of last month. The latest holdup is between Senator Debbie Stabenow and House Ag Chair Mike Conaway over farm payments he wants to give cotton growers at the expense of Midwest farmers. That concerns Ben Anderson, Policy Program Organizer for the Minnesota Land Stewardship Project.

He says the House version of the farm bill has extreme measures in it that need to be fixed in order for positive legislation to move forward.

Anderson says a good farm bill meets the needs of all types of farmers and he’s hopeful that’s what the conference leaders eventually come up with.

Anderson says Minnesota Land Steward Ship Project members met with House Ag Ranking member Collin Peterson this week to voice their concerns.
