Last week, Farm Bill Conferee leaders seemed to be engaged in finger pointing and not making any progress on completing a new farm bill. That’s concerning for members of the Minnesota Land Stewardship Project who want the farm bill passed before January 1. LSP Policy Program Organizer Ben Anderson says most of the problem lies with House Ag Committee Chairman Mike Conaway.
Senate Ag Chair Pat Roberts said Conaway is holding out on signing the conference report because he has concerns with at least six titles of the farm bill including commodity, nutrition and conservation. Anderson says his group wants conservation included in a final measure.
He says its critical the farm bill get passed this year before Congress has to start completely over on the legislation.
Conaway says Robert’s comments on him delaying the farm bill is nothing more than finger pointing and isn’t helpful in bringing about a deal on the bill.
