The Minnesota Land Stewardship Project and five other groups are backing HF 811, the Farm to School bill that’s been introduced in both houses of the Minnesota Legislature. LSP Federal Policy Organizer Ben Anderson says the bill would provide school districts a reimbursement for feeding students healthy and local foods through farm to school initiatives.
He says there is an increasing need for school children to eat healthy food and this legislation would help address that.
Anderson says the reimbursement would be handled through a State Agriculture Department grant program.
Anderson says a 2017 study shows more than 1.6 million Minnesotans lack access to healthy foods. Prior to going to a floor vote, the Farm to School bill will be heard in agriculture committees in both the House and Senate.
