Planning for a major power production facility on the Missouri River is underway but has a long timeline.
Joni Livingston, with Missouri River Energy Services of Sioux Falls, says there are several tracks for the “Gregory County Pumped Storage” power facility…..

The project would build a large reservoir on the west bank of the river and would drop water down the gulch to generators to provide peak time electricity.
Livingston says ongoing studies will guide their next steps…..

Livingston says design and construction will also take several years….

The proposed project would generate eighteen hundred megawatts of power and could cost up to one billion dollars.
