The 2020 session of the South Dakota legislature got underway on Tuesday with Governor Kristi Noem’s State of the State Address. The Governor talked about an aggressive approach to economic development. Part of that could include the livestock industry. Livestock development is one of the goals for agriculture groups represented by Lobbyist Lorin Pankratz.

He also expects some bills to be introduced on livestock zoning regulations.

Pankratz, who lobbies for the South Dakota Pork Producers Council and Soybean Association, thinks there will be an attempt to eliminate the ag exemption on pesticide fees regulated by the State Agriculture Department.

Pankratz also expects legislation to allow the production of industrial hemp.
