Nebraska State Senators approved and sent to select file the Livestock Siting and Expansion Legislation late last week. Nebraska Farm Bureau Vice President of Government Relations Jay Rempe says the measure was amended to meet local control concerns. He says the amended bill still involves a matrix that county zoning boards can use, but it’s now voluntary rather than mandated.
Rempe says the amended bill still calls for the state department of agriculture to put together a committee of experts to develop the matrix system.
He says his group worked closely with the State Cattlemen’s Association in bringing the idea for the siting bill forward. He says even with the amendment they still support the measure.
