South Dakota livestock producers interested in grazing their Conservation Reserve Program acres under the USDA emergency declaration need to contact their county Farm Service Agency office. Acting State Farm Service Agency Executive Director Jaime White says producers must notify USDA before turning any livestock out to graze.
She says currently only emergency grazing of CRP is allowed. However, haying could become available after August 2. White says producers will be notified when and if that occurs. She says any producer that has questions regarding grazing of CRP acres should contact their office.
White says eight South Dakota counties are now eligible for the Livestock Forage Program following the release of this week’s Drought Monitor, which added Ziebach and Perkins Counties.
The other six counties eligible for LFP are Corson, Edmunds, McPherson, Campbell, Potter and Walworth.
