Livestock haulers received a 90-day waiver from the new Electronic Logging Device Rules, which went into effect on December 18. In the meantime, livestock groups have asked for an exemption and continue to work with the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to find a compromise. North Dakota Stockmen’s Association Executive Vice President Julie Ellingson says their major concern centers around safety both for the animals and the drivers.
She says if the ELD rule is implemented as written, it will be difficult for Northern Plains livestock haulers to comply.
Ellingson says they’re trying to push the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to come up with a more workable regulation.
Ellingson says the comment period ends January 19, so there’s still time for producers to make their views known.
