Lincoln Nebraska  Public Schools Superintendent Steve Joel dismisses suggestions the school district is discarding the use of the terms “boys” and “girls” in favor of gender-neutral terms for students.
Joel addressed the topic after a resource used at a Lincoln middle school surfaced that advocated such an approach.
Joel accuses national news media outlets of distorting the issue. . .

Joel acknowledges the resource suggested creating a gender-neutral classroom. . .

Joel says the district has made no mandates and that each school building works to create an inviting environment for a wide variety of students. The Lincoln district has about thirty nine thousand students.
