Lincoln County, South Dakota will be holding a special election July 18 to decide if they’ll return to the original county ordinance for setbacks for wind projects. The original setback was 1,270 feet, but that was changed to a half mile. Dakota Power Community Wind Project supporter Brian Minish says that’s too restrictive and that’s why they’ve gathered petition signatures to refer the matter to a vote.
He says Lincoln County residents will vote only on returning the current wind project setback to its original distance.
Minish will be rallying supporters of the Dakota Power Community Wind Project to vote against the current setback ordinance.
2,100 petition signatures were turned in to the Lincoln County Auditor and 1,732 were needed to refer the matter to a public vote.
