A USDA report this week indicates the amount of corn necessary to make a gallon of ethanol is less than previously believed. The projected demand for U.S. corn for ethanol has been lowered by 50 million bushels. American Coalition for Ethanol Senior Vice President Ron Lamberty says that shows what ethanol officials have known all along about the efficiency of the industry and that that is just getting even better.

Lamberty says the report’s figures give the ethanol industry good ammunition in battling those who want to get rid of the corn ethanol mandate. He says the Feinstein Toomey proposed bill in the Senate is way off base with its attempt to remove corn ethanol from the RFS.

Lamberty says the latest report on the efficiency of ethanol produced with corn shows that U.S. farmers can produce enough corn to meet all the food, fuel and feed needs that are out there.
