A Nebraska state senator says the legislature has a role to play as the state addresses cases of sexual abuse in the child welfare system.

Nebraska’s Child Welfare Inspector General reported 50 cases of sexual abuse of state wards in a roughly three-year period.

Senator Kate Bolz of Lincoln says legislators must respond to the recommendations the Inspector General outlines. . .

Bolz says lawmakers have an oversight responsibility. . .

Bolz points out the inspector general stated a culture change needs to take place in the Division of Children and Family Services. She says lawmakers must make sure the state follows through with the recommendation.
