A number of legislators say the tone toward education funding in South Dakota seems to be changing.

Senator Bill Van Gerpen of Tyndall says more legislators see spending on education as a good investment…

Van Gerpen, a member of the Appropriations Committee, was one of the moving forces behind ramping up this year’s state aid funding. The legislature approved an increase of three point three five percent for the next school year.

Van Gerpen says that is part of the ongoing discussion…

The Governor had proposed a three percent increase, while state law mandated only a one point six percent hike.
