South Dakota lawmakers are off today and will return to Pierre tomorrow for the start of the second week of the session. Unlimited bill introductions will continue through January 29th.

Representative Jim Bolin of Canton is a member of the Appropriations Committee, and says he supports most of what the Governor has included in his budget proposal…

 

Bolin says having that extra windfall money may take some of the fight out of the budget process…

 

Some lawmakers have been critical of the process that presents the budget as the final bill in the session, sometimes just hours before the final vote and adjournment. Bolin says there is some talk of pushing back the Governor’s budget address…
