Nebraska Attorney General Doug Peterson says prosecutors must not be blamed for the state’s overcrowded prisons.
Peterson has objected to a couple of changes to state criminal statutes being considered by the legislature. And the attorney general objects to how some legislators have framed the debate.

The complaints have been heard by the Unicameral. The sponsor of the crime bill has promised to work with county prosecutors to overcome their objections before the bill returns for another round of debate.

A state legislator says the Unicameral must change state statutes to prevent another Nikko Jenkins from happening in Nebraska.
Senator Bob Krist of Omaha outlines for his colleagues the results of a system that pushed Jenkins out from solitary confinement directly into the public.

Krist says a bill advancing in the legislature will address the problems.
Jenkins killed four in Omaha after being released from prison.
