Legislative Planning Committee Discusses Capital Outlay Fund

The South Dakota Legislative Planning Committee will meet Monday with the Capital Outlay Fund as the focus of discussion. Senator Billie Sutton serves on the committee and says Capital Outlay fits into the overall funding study, but he says more action should be taken to solve the funding struggle for schools.

While some argue that Capital Outlay Funds won’t solve the teacher shortage in the state, Sutton says that about 80% of the budgets go towards teacher salaries.

Sutton says the next step is to keep talking about the issue and working effectively towards finding more revenues to pay for schools.
