Legislation that would provide an agricultural exemption from EPA’s Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasures Act, or SPCC was introduced in the Senate Thursday. Nebraska Senator Deb Fischer sponsored the FUELS Act, which would provide an immediate 6,000 gallon exemption for farmers to store fuel on their farm.
She says current spill containment regulations weren’t designed with agriculture in mind.
Nebraska Farm Bureau President Steve Nelson says he’s pleased with Senator Fischer’s bill. He says environmental regulation is best left in the hands of state officials.
Companion legislation was introduced in the House in July 2015.
