Time is running short for Nebraska State Legislators this session and a measure that would allow Packer ownership of swine and dairy has only gotten as far as the first round of debate after passing out of committee. Center for Rural Affairs Traci Bruckner says her group opposes LB 176 because it will squeeze out smaller producers and those just starting to get into the business.
Bruckner says she expects the measure to be carried over to next year’s state legislative debate if lawmakers fail to move it in the closing days of this year’s session.
Supporters of LB 176 have said the measure is needed to keep Nebraska from losing its processing industry to other states.
