Legislation has been introduced in the U.S. House to amend the nearly 100-year old Packers and Stockyards Act. The Livestock Marketing Association supports the measure. LMA Vice President of Government and Industry Affairs Chelsea Good says HR 5883 clarifies that GISPA rules apply to video and online auctions in the same manner as fixed auction sites.

She’s hoping Congress will take up the measure after they return following the summer recess and get it approved this year.

R-CALF CEO Bill Bullard says his group backs the legislation and thinks the update is needed to modernize the law and bring it up to date with current market conditions.

Both Good and Bullard don’t see much controversy or opposition to the measure sponsored by House Ag Committee member David Rouser.
