Legislation has been introduced to improve livestock disaster programs. The legislation contains four bills calling for changes to USDA’s Livestock Indemnity and Emergency Conservation programs. South Dakota Stockgrowers Executive Director Silvia Christen says, if approved, those measures will help South Dakota’s cattle producers.
She says it’s helpful the bills call for expediting disaster payments to livestock producers and getting them the money up front.
Christen says another positive provision calls for doubling the Livestock Indemnity Payment limit.
The bill was introduced by Kansas Senator Jerry Moran and Kansas Congressman Roger Marshall and should have good support.
