Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell wants to have the full Senate vote on the farm bill by July 4. The Senate Ag Committee approved their version last Wednesday. American Soybean Association Board member and Valley Springs, South Dakota farmer Kevin Scott is pleased overall with what the committee came up with and he’s hoping for full approval.
He says his group likes what the Committee did with crop insurance, as well as funding for export programs such as Foreign Market Development and the Market Access Program.
Scott says it would be helpful if Congress could complete the farm bill this year. He says the Senate is moving forward at a good pace and he’s hoping the House follows.
The House is expected to take a second vote on the farm bill on Friday (June 22).
