While the lack of medical care in many rural areas of South Dakota is seen as a roadblock for development, there is also an evolving shortage of lawyers.

Ryan Cwach, an attorney from Yankton, says he has been working with a task force on “Project Rural Practice.” He says that was a program this year’s legislature set up to entice lawyers to rural areas…

Cwach says they have targeted some law school students for the program…

While the rural areas may not have a lot of criminal law activity, Cwach says legal expertise is needed in many other areas…

Cwach says they have seen more established lawyers coming to their meetings in the hopes of attracting a young lawyer to their practice.
