The American Civil Liberties Union of Iowa has filed a lawsuit on behalf of a coalition of public interest groups challenging the constitutionality of Iowa’s new Ag Gag Law. It replaces the original law currently being appealed in court. Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement State Policy Director Adam Mason says they are part of that coalition and believe the second Ag Gag Law is also unconstitutional.
He says the Iowa Ag Gag Law prevents citizens from exercising their free speech rights.
Mason says his group won the first constitutional case but that’s currently being challenged by the State of Iowa. He says court cases involving both Ag Gag laws will take at least a year to conclude.
The Anti puppy mill group, “Bailing out Benji” is also a plaintiff in the latest case against Ag Gag Law 2.0. It is being challenged in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Iowa.
