Three members of Nebraska Communities United have filed a lawsuit in District Court against the City of Fremont on the illegal blighting of farmland. City officials want to use that farmland to provide tax increment financing for Costco’s Lincoln Premium Poultry processing plant. One of the plaintiffs is the leader of Nebraska Communities United, Randy Ruppert. He says the city wanted to allow the plant to be built on 400 acres of ag land but then added to it for the TIF.

He says his group opposes the project mainly due to environmental concerns.

Ruppert says his group thinks there’s a problem with the contracts Lincoln Premium Poultry is asking growers to sign onto.

Ruppert says they’re asking the court for a temporary injunction to halt further city development for the poultry processing plant and would like a hearing on August 4.
