Lawmakers are questioning the pharmaceutical company Mylan as to why the big price jump for the EpiPen – a device that contains the drug epinephrine that helps patients suffering from an extreme allergic reaction. The price jumped from around $100 for a pair of pens in 2007 to more than $600. Omaha resident Chris Snyder says his daughter suffers from a peanut allergy and the pens saved her life in the past. He says the pens expire so they need to be replaced every year. He says an app helped him restock his daughter’s supply.
Snyder doesn’t yet know how the price hike will impact his finances.
The House Oversight and Government Reform Committee will hold a hearing on the issue. Other lawmakers are demanding answers from Mylan.
