Kansas Senator Jerry Moran and 60 other lawmakers are asking the USDA to provide three quick fixes to help producers hit by the negative ag economy. One is for the USDA to prioritize wheat in food aid shipments. National Farmers Union Government Relations Representative Zack Clark says that would help with large amount of U.S. wheat in surplus.
He says another fix would be the replenishing of funds for the USDA direct and guaranteed operating loan program.
Clark says the final solution involves the USDA providing emergency assistance for the dairy industry, which has been plagued by low milk prices.
Clark says it would help if the dairy margin protection program would be tweaked to help producers.
