Law enforcement across the US and Canada will be ramping up inspections of trucks and other commercial vehicles through Thursday.
It’s part of the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance’s annual “International Roadcheck”. The CVSA says law enforcement will be doing three times as many inspections a day for the three day period.
Lieutenant Jon Beckstead with the Nebraska State Patrol Says these inspections are important to public safety.
Road check participation varies state to state. Beckstead says Nebraska tries to have as many officers on the road as possible.
South Dakota Highway Patrol Captain John Broers says they’ll continue everyday inspections, but will send stats from the three day period to the CVSA.
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance says around 70,000 inspections will be done this week. A CVSA official said violations that have taken trucks off the road have dropped from 30 to 20 percent since the 1990s.
