The Ag Ministry in France has detected a confirmed single case of BSE. It is the third single case of BSE detected in Europe since 2015. R CALF CEO Bill Bullard says Europe continues to have problems with the disease and hasn’t been able to detect why it’s occurring.
He says before these countries are allowed to trade with the U.S. they need to get their disease problems and especially BSE under control.
Bullard says he’s concerned that U.S. and European negotiators working on the Trans Atlantic Trade Investment Partnership free trade deal may relax U.S import rules even further in order to get that agreement approved.
French officials say the detection of the isolated BSE case demonstrates the effectiveness of their monitoring system. Bullard says that’s the same claim Canada made each and every time they reported a new case of BSE. He says that’s quite concerning.
