Yankton Police say a man with a gun held up the Freedom gas station at 3rd & Broadway last night. Chief Brian Paulsen says the robbery was reported about 10:15 Saturday night.
He says a description of the suspect and vehicle was given to law enforcement.
At about 10:45, Paulsen says the South Dakota Highway Patrol spotted a vehicle matching the description, and gave chase. The pursuit on east Highway 50 topped speeds of 100 miles per hour. The driver of the vehicle lost control and rolled the car. He then tried to flee but was caught by the state trooper.
The suspect has been identified as 23 year old Baylon Nkeshimana of Omaha. He was arrested for Robbery 1st Degree, Eluding, Reckless Driving, Improper Left Turn and Lane Driving.
An undisclosed amount of cash was recovered. The Yankton County Sheriff’s office was also involved in the incident.
