A large rail project in central South Dakota is on hold as sponsors figure out how to pay for it.
The State Rail Board has been working to rehabilitate a section from Chamberlain west to Presho on the state owned Mitchell – Rapid City line. Initial bids for the project were rejected last month, coming in about twelve million dollars over estimates.
Board Chairman Todd Yeaton of Kimball says the new bids were closer.
Yeaton says it is a unique project, with not a lot of companies able to do the work.
Yeaton says the project will be delayed a bit, but is confident it will be built.
Yeaton says they also put several other proposed projects on hold until they can figure out the funding for the MRC project.
