Former President of the Iowa Farm Bureau and the State Board of Regents Craig Lang is running for Iowa Secretary of Agriculture in 2018. Lang says he’ll formally announce his plans once Secretary Bill Northey is confirmed as a USDA Undersecretary. Lang, a Brooklyn area dairy farmer, says he wants to make Iowa’s agricultural industry more diverse.

He says he has various experiences that makes him a good choice for the job.

Lang hopes by running in the Republican primary there’ll be an opportunity to speak directly to the voters about agriculture and its importance.

Another leading contender for Iowa Secretary of Ag is State Representative Pat Grassley, the grandson of Senator Chuck Grassley. Other possibilities include: former Iowa Soybean Association President Ray Gaesser, former Representative Ann Sweeney, deputy ag secretary Mike Naig and Chad Ingels. Governor Kim Reynolds will appoint a secretary to serve until the 2018 election.
