Leaders of the Land Stewardship Project were on Capitol Hill this week lobbying on the next farm bill. LSP member and Southwest Minnesota farmer Tom Nussmeier says they’re asking for a strong Conservation Title and Conservation Stewardship Program in the next farm bill.

He says they also want reform of the crop insurance program so that smaller and beginning farmers can get a larger piece the safety net.

Nussmeier says there’s no indication if the farm bill will get written early but Congressional staffers are busy already gathering input from farmers and others on the legislation.

Nussmeier says prior to holding their Hill visits, the LSP leaders held several meetings in rural Minnesota to gather input from producers on what they want in the next farm program.
