Minnesota Land Stewardship Project members were in Washington D.C. last week talking with lawmakers about trade concerns and the depressed agricultural economy. LSP member Alan Perish farms in Todd County. He says the tariffs and recent trade war have had a devastating effect on both Minnesota and the nation’s farmers and ranchers.
He says they also told members of Congress the USMCA trade deal needs some fixes.
Perish says one of the negatives is the USMCA allows drug manufacturers to hold onto their patents which will increase the cost of health care for everyone. He also says the pact will also have a negative impact on Canada’s dairy farmers.
Perish says they hope Congress will be able to get USMCA fixed to address those problems.
