Mount Marty College and the Lancer Athletic Department has announced the addition of men’s tennis to the sport offerings at the college.
The addition was approved at the Board of Trustees meeting held the end of November.
Chuck Iverson, the Mount Marty College Athletic Director stated, “I am pleased to announce the addition of men’s tennis into our Lancer Athletics programming. The addition of intercollegiate tennis provides opportunities for our current and future students to participate in a sport that is known to be a lifelong activity. It is very strong in this corner of the state, and in this part of the Midwest. We feel men’s tennis is a natural fit for the college and will be an exciting addition. Since adding women’s tennis in 2011 we have been exploring it as a men’s sport as well. This just seemed to be the right time to take it to the Board.”
The search for the new Head Men’s Tennis Coach will start immediately Iverson stated. “We hope the search process goes quickly, but we also know it is critical to find that coach who fits perfectly with the philosophy and mission of the college and the athletic department. We are extremely confident that we will be able to find that coach in time to start a full schedule in fall 2015.”
Men’s tennis will be the 17th intercollegiate sport and NAIA Championship sport at Mount Marty College, joining women’s tennis, men’s and women’s basketball, soccer, cross country, indoor track, golf, outdoor track, as well as baseball for the men and volleyball and softball for the women. Mount Marty College also offers archery and trap shooting as club sports.
Men’s tennis is a Great Plains Athletic Conference championship sport. Mount Marty College will be the seventh of the eleven GPAC institutions to offer men’s tennis. The GPAC and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics championships are in the spring, but some schools do play part of their season in the fall. Student-athletes interested in tennis at Mount Marty College are encouraged to contact Athletic Director Chuck Iverson (605-668-1241) or the Mount Marty College Admissions Office (605-668-1545) for more details.
