The 27th annual Lamb Bonanza is set for Saturday at South Dakota State University. SDSU Extension Sheep Specialist Jeff Held says the goal of the event is to recognize the state’s sheep industry and raise scholarship money for animal science students. He says they’ll be auctioning off six lamb pelts at halftime of the men’s basketball game to help raise those funds.
He says student enrollment in SDSU’s animal science department has been increasing over the past years.
Held says they’ve been seeing several young people getting into the sheep business in South Dakota and flock numbers are growing.
Held says South Dakota Sheep Growers Association members will be serving lamb sandwiches and meatballs between 1 pm and 2 pm on the north side of the track in Frost Arena on Saturday.
