A recent state Chamber of Commerce survey of businesses found the lack of workforce housing is a major concern.
The Nebraska Investment Finance Authority is offering $12 million dollars to help alleviate the problem.
Executive director Tim Kenny says two matching funds will provide subsidies for the high cost of building in rural areas.
Kenny says it’s a limited amount of money and many places are expressing interest in applying.
Kenny says a community nonprofit applies for and administers the funds locally.
The money is designed to help cover a small portion of the new housing construction costs.
