Lack of School Funding Affecting Student Performance

Yankton residents met last evening as the South Dakota Budget and Policy Institute hosted another public meeting to discuss education funding. Attendees heard a report by BPI executive director, Joy Smolnisky, with data showing the current condition of South Dakota’s education funding and how the state compares to its neighbors. Kathy Greeneway is the President of the Yankton School Board…

She says the lack of funding wasn’t a surprise, but the affect it has on student performance was dissatisfying.

Greeneway says after seeing the research, these kinds of public discussions are important.

The meeting Tuesday evening was attended by school officials, volunteers, and concerned parents interested in knowing more about South Dakota’s education dollars and how funding is affecting student academic achievement.
