United States and South Korean negotiators met last week in Washington D.C. for the first round of the renegotiation of the KORUS free trade agreement between the two countries. National Cattlemen’s Beef Association Vice President of Government Affairs Colin Woodall says the initial discussions were positive.
He says KORUS has been a very valuable deal for U.S. cattle producers and losing that would be devastating to their industry.
The Trump administration is focused on making trade agreements better and Woodall is not opposed to that as long as we don’t lose what we’ve gained.
Woodall says last week’s discussions were only the beginning and many more steps have yet to be taken but at least they’re off to a good start.
