Minnesota Senator Amy Klobuchar’s staff held a farm bill meeting in Marshall this week. Minnesota Soybean Growers Association Director Bob Worth of Lake Benton attended the session. He says the Senator’s aides wanted to hear from producers about what’s working and what isn’t in the farm legislation. He says the new farm bill needs to fix the ARC and PLC programs.

He says another possible fix would be to go to a state yield when figuring out ARC and PLC payments. Worth also says one of the toughest issues lawmakers will have to consider when they write the new farm bill is making sure farmers have enough of a price support to surpass expenses.

Worth is concerned the turnout was light at the Marshall meeting. He’s encouraging producers to attend future farm bill meetings in the state.

Klobuchar also held farm bill meetings Monday in Owatonna and New Ulm, and Tuesday in Willmar, Morris and Moorhead. Worth says he expects future meetings on the farm legislation to be hosted by Congressmen Collin Peterson and Tim Walz.
