A race for a seat on the Nebraska Public Service Commission has become a near-referendum on the Keystone XL oil pipeline.

Democrat Christa Yoakum has made her opposition to Keystone XL the centerpiece for her campaign, though she says she focused on the pipeline, because its an issue which appeals to voters. . .

Republican State Senator Dan Watermeier of Syracuse insists he remains open-minded about Keystone XL. . .

The PSC approved a route for Keystone XL on a split vote last year. That decision is now before the Nebraska Supreme Court.
