Keystone Opponent Says PUC Decision Has No Teeth

Tuesday, the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission approved the recertification permit for Trans Canada’s Keystone XL pipeline.  KXL organizer for the Indigenous Environmental Network Dallas Goldtooth says the PUC decision doesn’t mean much given the fact President Obama has already rejected the project and denied them a federal permit.

He was disappointed by the P-U-C’s decision but not dismayed at their efforts to try and stop the pipeline.

Goldtooth says even if a new President is elected that supports the pipeline, Trans Canada still faces an uphill battle getting that federal permit approved.

He says the people of South Dakota both native and non native landowners have shown they’re willing to go toe to toe with large corporations in order to protect the state’s land and water.
