The Keystone crude oil pipeline has leaked about five thousand barrels in a field near Amherst, in Marshall County in northeast South Dakota. The leak was reported late Thursday afternoon.
Brian Walsh, a scientist manager with the ground water division of the South Dakota Department of Environment and Natural Resources, says they have people on the site…..
Walsh says this is not the first leak on the South Dakota portion of the line…..
Walsh says they want to make sure all the oil is removed, and the site restored…..
Line operator, Trans Canada, says the line was shut down within fifteen minutes of the leak detection. They have a large crew at the scene, starting the clean up process.
